About This Project - Voices of Lao Cinema

Our Mission

Voices of Lao Cinema is a non-commercial, community-focused initiative with a clear goal: to create the definitive digital archive and promotion platform for filmmakers from Laos.

We aim to:

Increase Visibility: Provide a centralized, high-quality showcase for Lao cinematic talent for international audiences, festival programmers, and scholars.
Build a Resource: Serve as a practical hub with up-to-date information on funding, festivals, and opportunities.
Document & Preserve: Create a living record of the contributions and achievements of Lao filmmakers.

How We Work: Phases & Permissions

This project is being built carefully and ethically, in distinct phases:

Phase 1: Core Showcase (2026) Launching with profiles of key filmmakers, created only after obtaining their explicit written permission. All content is approved.
Phase 2: Community Resource (2026) Adding event deadlines and festival spotlights based on publicly verified information.
Phase 3: Community Input (2026) Opening a submission system (via the Submit page) for filmmakers to contribute their own news, which will be verified before publishing.

Our Core Principle: Permission-Based

Every filmmaker profile on this site exists because the filmmaker has granted us permission to feature them. We respect intellectual property and personal rights.

For Filmmakers: We use a simple release form that specifies exactly how their name, image, bio, and film clips will be used. They retain all rights to their work.

For the Public: You may not copy or redistribute content from this site (especially film clips) without contacting the original copyright holders (the filmmakers).

Contact & Project Status

This project is currently in active development as a private prototype. It is not yet publicly accessible.

We are in the process of contacting filmmakers and building the initial content library.

For Festivals & Partners

Film festivals, cultural institutes, or organizations interested in collaboration or data sharing are warmly welcomed. We seek to build bridges.
